City in Japan Wants to Make A “Spa-Musement Park”

Have you ever tried to figure out how to fit a relaxing spa day in with a full day of thrills? Well, it looks like creatives in Japan have come have reached the perfect answer. The officials in Beppu City, Japan must think an awful lot like I do, because they’ve come up with a very special ideafor an amusement park in the same vein, and I must say, I’m very impressed.

Beppu City has the world’s largest supply of hot spring water (lucky them) and is planning on utilizing that resource for good instead of hoarding it all for themselves. The idea? Taking that warm, ridiculously comfortable water and using it for a special spa-themed amusement park they’re coining a “Spamusement Park” project. Yes, that’s exactly what it sounds like, and it’s all for the purpose of keeping guests relaxed and happy.

There’s even a special video that was shot in its honor, featuring carousels with enormous hot tubs, rail cars with bath tubs, shooting galleries in steam rooms and everyone walking around in towels everywhere. The video shows off several ways it could be an idyllic destination for citizens of the city, and it looks all sorts of relaxing, except for the fact that you probably walk around barefoot and get dirt and grime all over everything. I’d hope it’d be cleaner than that. Maybe you get spa flip-flops.

The video states that it needs 1,000,000 to make the park a reality, and it’s far surpassed that already, so maybe it’s possible it’ll actually happen. This isn’t the sort of thing we could have here in America since everyone is weirdly freaked out by other people’s bodies, but if I’m ever in Japan and this becomes a thing, you bet your butt I’m going to get it in. How about you?
