Acne

Acne is the result of hair follicles being clogged by a mixture of skin oil, dirt, and dead skin cells. Whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and cysts are all types of lesions acne can produce. Acne typically appears on the face and neck, but can be found on the back, shoulders, and arms.

Even mild acne can produce scarring, although the more severe acne (cystic) is associated more strongly with the risk of scarring. It’s hard to tell, though, who will develop scarring and how severe it will be.

Scars are the result of injury to the skin, and what you see is the loss of skin tissue or the build-up of excess skin tissue. You can basically get one of two types of scarring: depressed (pitted) scars or elevated (thickened) scars.

Treating acne with laser therapy will take approximately 4-5 treatments.

What to expect

Before treatment, you'll need to remove any makeup and/or shave the targeted area. The treatment will feel soothing and give you a warm sensation. Some redness may appear immediately after the procedure, but it will fade within a few hours.

Facial & Leg Veins

Facial and leg veins are dialated superficial veins that appear primarily on the nose, chin, or cheek area and often accompanies roasacea and other skin-based trauma. Around 70% of women and 30% of men will develop a venous disorder. While it's not completely known what causes these disorders, hereditary disposition is believed to be a likely cause. However, oral contraceptives, hormone changes and therapy, sun exposure, and natural aging are also believed to contribute to development. Within 1-2 treatments, most visible veins will disappear from sight, however, further treatments may be required in some cases.

What to expect

Before your treatment, make sure to not take aspirin or blood thinners 5 days prior to treatment and do not apply creams or makeup to the affected area on the day of. During treatment, most feel a stinging sensation as pulses are delivered, while most people do not require a local anesthetic, it can be provided should you require it. After treatment, ensure you keep treated areas out of direct sun or use sunscreen and avoid rigorous physical activity for the first 24 hours post treatment. Some patients report redness or bruising during the first 48 hours and tan or brownish pigment may persist for weeks or months after treatment.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin condition that creates abnormal amounts of brown skin pigmentation, called melanin and can appear on several areas on the face typically. While direct cause isn't known, sun exposure and homronal changes are related. This condition can affect any gender and race, but it more commonly seen in women of hispanic and asian descent. While this condition is physically harmless, the blotchy brown or gray-brown skin it produces often has an impact on mental health of those afflicted.

The number of treatments required will vary from patient to patient depending on their specific type and severity of melasma.

What to expect

Since there are many types of melasma, each treatment will be unique. However, generally, the treatments will create a warm and tingly sensation on the area being treated. As with many other laser treatments, take care to use sunscreen when outside for extended periods of time after treatment as the area will likely be sensitive to sunlight.

Nail Fungus

Onychromycosis (also know as "Dermatophytic onychomycosis," "Ringworm of the nail," "Tinea unguium," and "nail fungus") is fungal infection of finger or, more commonly, toenails. Approximately 60% of the adult population has at one time had this condition. While this condition is not hazardous to your overall health, nail fungus, if untreated, can completely destroy the affected nail over time. The number fo visits required to eliminate onychomycosis completely varies from case to case and may require retreatment every few months in extreme cases.

What to expect

Each treatment session can last between 15-30 minutes and is safer than and more effective than oral and topical medications. One week prior to a treatment, ensure that you wear clean socks each day and do not apply nail polish to the affected nails. There are no negative effects of the treatment, which means you can get back to your day as soon as the treatment is over. Though no immediately visible change can be seen after a session, you'll be able to see the results of treatment as your nail grows out.

Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are benign skin growths that can grow on the bottom of your feet on pressure points, heels, and balls of the feet. They are caused by the HPV virus when it enters through tiny cuts on the skin. While plantar warts aren't a serious health concern, they can be painful and bothersome. Laser removal is so effective for plantar warts that in almost all cases 1-2 treatments is all it takes to permanently remove a plantar wart.

What to expect

During the treatment you will feel some discomfort during the 20-40 second treatment. Post treatment, you'll see the area of the wart is now blackened, this is normal and means that the virus causing the wart has been destroyed and healing can begin. Depending on the size of the wart, healing can take anywhere from 1-3 months. During this time, make sure you keep your feet dry and clean, change socks daily, wear open-air footwear when possible, and avoid contact with other warts.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a a reddened spot or spots on your skin. It is a condition requiring treatment to eliminate as it can worsen over time if left. Unlike other conditions such as acne, over the counter products will not cure rosacea and may irritate the skin causing additional redness or bumps.

Using a combination of intense pulse light and laser genesis therapy, rosacea can be eliminated with 4-6 treatments spaced out over the course of 2-4 months.

What to expect

During treatment there will be a warming sensation around the affected area. After, you can resume your day with no downtime, but take care to use sunscreen if outdoors as the sun can irritate a newly treated area. While individual treatments show subtle improvment, there is dramatic change over the course of treatments.

Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags are growths of skin that are cosmetically bothersome and completely benign. Thye are typically round and have a brownish colour, but can be all shapes, sizes and colours ranging from black to white. They can be easily removed with minimal amounts of potential scarring and little to no pain with only 1-2 treatments.

What to expect

As with other laser treatments, you can expect the feeling of lightly snapping a rubber band with momentary heat at the targeted area. The area will appear raw and red after the treatment and will need to stay clean while it heals. It's recommended that you take the remainder of the day off from work and avoid applying makeup or other external use products to the treated area.

You can expect your skin to heal in as little as 3 days without scarring, depending on your skin health and size of the treated area.
